Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy (PT) Once your child enters school (or an early intervention program) they will receive an evaluation from the physical therapist to determine if they qualify for physical therapy. Not all children with autism will need physical therapy. A physical therapist can help children who have low muscle tone and poor coordination develop better gross motor skills. They work on things such as:walking, sitting, skipping, throwing and catching. Building these skills is very important for these children to be able to interact socially.
