Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy (OT) Once your child enters school (or an early intervention program) they will receive an evaluation from the occupational therapist to determine if they qualify for occupational therapy. Most children with autism qualify for OT because their delayed development impacts their fine motor skills. An occupational therapist can help your child develop their handwriting skills, their dressing skills (buttons, snaps, shoe laces, zippers). They can also help create a sensory diet for your child if their sensory sensitivities are impacting their behaviors or ability to learn.
